    BP Heating Question

I recently upped my BP's tank to a 30 breeder, and added a bigger UTH and bulb. However, it's getting to be summer and the tank is making the room a bit to hot. I keep the snake in my bedroom, and also have two racks of servers, an 8 core mac pro, and about 5 laptops running. So, in other words the room is like a big BP tank. Last I checked, its 95 in my room. To keep the heat down, I put an AC in the window. However, when I turn it on, it brings the heat down so the BP tank gets to cold. Any ideas on how to make sure the BP is comfortable, while still being able to be in the same room?

    Thanks,

    Apple2

Hi Apple2. Obligatory question first: Do you have a thermostat/dimmer attached to the UTH? If so, you should be able to regulate the heat fairly easily. Disposing of the lamp will help, too. Move the tank as far from the window as you can and adjust temps as needed, although a thermostat should do a decent job of keeping temps steady. My room gets kind of chilly with the AC on, and I'm fanatic about checking temps (I don't depend on the thermostat's reading by itself).

Also, you can wrap a blanket around the tank to help keep heat in. Keep in mind though that unregulated, UTH's, especially the size for a 30 gallon tank, can get really hot unregulated. I experimented once and I think it hit 120 at one point.

Let us know how things go and don't be afraid to ask more questions. Hope I helped.

You definitely don't need a lamp, just the UTH! Like said above, just keep the tank far away as possible from the AC and put a towel covering 3/4 of the top to keep the heat in! A thermostat is a must in my option if you don't already have one!

    Re: BP Heating Question

mess with the heat wattage try a smaller bulb that keeps temps at normal 90 degree basking spot and leave the uth at night
