    Potential issue? Help!

So today for me is feeding day and as I woke up I found that I only had one rat left in the freezer. So I got the idea to call Kelly & Art and see if they had any ASF's because I've got a couple of males who are problem feeders and I thought I'd see if these little buggers would do the trick.

I fed my normal female the regular rat and went about my day of errands and then picked up 4 ASF's from Art. Got them home and fed 3 of them, then I noticed my normal female staring at me through her tub, obviously she smelled the ASFs and liked what she smelled. but before I could even get my hand on her tub she struck and smacked her face on the tub.

I immediately opened it to make sure she was okay but it took no time at all to see her brain was still in feed mode. so I backed off for a minute and tried to reach around her to get at her hind end so she would snap out and not strike me.

Once I got her I saw that her bottom lip is bent back a slight bit but she was also drooling severely and it scared the crap outta me if I'm blunt about it.

Has anyone ever seen this before? is the drooling "normal" under the circumstance? did she just knock herself a little silly and I should just let her alone for a while?

    ugh, WORRIED!!

Would that cause the drooling bit? it seemed excessive in the moment.

My normal male has done that before, I'd leave her alone for a bit. I find tapped them on the head with an empty paper towel tube snaps them out of strike mode. Let her realign her jaw and keep an eye on the drool....could be an early sign of RI if it doesn't stop...or could just be her wanting to eat that yummy ASF lol

haha, yeah I called Art, one of my breeders and he told me that it could be an RI but could also be that maybe she had just had a drink of water before honing in on the smell of the ASF and that could be the sourse of the drool when I picked her up.

Nonetheless I'm going to keep an eye on her and take her out maybe tomorrow to give a listen and see if she's weezing or anything.

Yeah my guy left a nice wet nose print on the glass after his episode, that was months ago and he didn't have any RI, so as long as you keep an eye on her there shouldn't be an issue lol. Nothing wrong with a nice strong feeder! Especially a female ball python lol.

The weirdest part of the whole deal is, I fed her a nice sized rat only hours before, but also now my Pastel girl who has the most ridiculous feeding response EVER, and struck at me yesterday when I opened her tub to clean, isn't eating.

Women, i tell ya! LOL, KIDDING!

    Re: Potential issue? Help!

She seems to be okay today, Yesterday after my initial freakout and the notion that it could be the beginning of an RI I rose the temps to about 93, from 89.

She still has a small amount of drip when I held her a moment ago, but listening very carefully in a quiet place I heard no signs of strained breathing or weezing. so hopefully that means I caught on just in time.

Still keeping a super close eye on her though.
