buying small T's

I'm looking at getting a red knee baby, and was wondering if small ones are more likely to die as opposed to the bigger ones? I don't want to buy a really small one then it stresses out and dies cause it's so little. Here's the options I have.


1/2" =$25
3/4 " =$35
1 " =$45
1 1/2 " = $50
2 " = $70


I'm buying from a breeder rather than the petstore, cause the adult the petstore has is $250 , and I can get a pinktoe for $50

So would buying a 1/2" be the same as buying a 2", obviously other than size?

This is coming from a person who got a tiny T and then an older one later, the tiny babies are more work and worry because you don't always know they'll make it out of their baby days.

IMO the 2" spider would be the better choice because yes, it's a little more expensive, but you'll have to worry less about it and you'll still have a nice hardy pet for a good long time. B. Smithi (the red knee) is a slow/medium grower, so getting it bigger is a better way to go in my books.

Smaller T's are a bit harder to take care of and more delicate IMO. And some are slow growers so they might be small for some time.

A 1/2" one will need it's vial lightly misted on one side to drink or you will need an eye dropper to drop a droplet of water in there so they can drink. You will need to rip a leg or cut a cricket in pieces to feed or use flightless fruit flies. You will need a super small container to keep it in, usually a clear vial.

A 2" one will be more hardy. You can use something for a small shallow water bowel. You can just toss a cricket in there for them to eat. You can use an appropriate size container. A mini or small kritter keeper, a plastic tub or whatever depending on what you get.
