How to upset a baby boa in one easy step...

So I feed my new boa for the first time today, I probably should have waited until next week but I missed counted when I took the rat pups out of the freezer. I definately did not feed her like the breeder did. I offered her the rat pup and she struck defensively at it 2-3 times. She then spent the next 15-20 minutes sitting in the corner of her cage with her mouth open hissing at me even though I wasn't any where near the cage. I thought she was upset when she arrived, but this was way beyond that. She did finally calm down and eat the rat pup, but man was she mad.

Lesson learned for next time: Just drop it in and close the lid, she knows what to do.

LOL.....It is funny though how even a mad boa will still eat.... My boa ate 2 days after I picked her up. They are so much easier to get to eat than a bp....

first day I got Buffy, she ate...no problems. I think a boas biggest fear is missing a meal...that supercedes all other fears

Mine has been doing the same thing! The very first night I got him he ate by striking and coiling and just devoured the mouse. The past few times though he just strikes at it a few times then looks at it close up...and won't strike. Eventually my hand got numb from holding the tongs so I just drop the mouse on his "lap" and walk away, within 5 minutes the darn mouse is gone lol. It only took me two weeks to realize I'm not wasting my time dangling like I do with my bps lol.

    ^^^^Understatement^^^^

BP's are a pain to feed, well maybe my babies are. But my baby Kenyan has eaten since day one only refusing 1 meal and he shed the next day. My Redtail would eat everyday if I gave it to her. I feed her every 3 days, just picked her up and she is way underweight.

Wow, you got a girl with attitude, lol! My little guy is the CHILLEST of the chill. He'll coil around my arm and just "sit" there for hours or I can put him on my chest and shoulders and he'll do the same. Been like that since day one... I can picture your girl, lol!
