Too late in the season to start breeding?
Hi. I'm picking up a couple breeding age BP's next month and I'm wondering if it is too late in the season to start breeding. If so, maybe I'll get younger snakes and get them ready for the next breeding season. Thanks.

No, it is not too late. Some people successfully breed BPs all year round. The snakes that you are getting may or may not breed for you, some just don't right away. It can't hurt to make the attempt, in my opinion.
In my own experience, I purchased an adult pair that went through the motions of breeding almost immediately, but did not produce eggs for 2 years. I hope that your luck is better than mine was.
Good luck,
John

Yes its to late, even if it was 2 months ago it would be to late.
Why? Have you never heard of quarantine? From the looks of it u have 2 other snakes.
What if one u get is sick and all 4 die? Ponder that.

It can hurt the rest of his collection if one is sick you got a lot to learn.

And if they were your only 2 snakes and did not come from the same person i think that/you are incredibly stupid.

BPs can be bred at any time of the year.. However, when I get new animals they get an acclimation period. I want to make sure they are eating/passing waste and generally stress free before I go stressing them with breeding.
Also, quarantine is important. However, you don't mention if you're getting these two new animals from the same breeder.

Mike - they will be quarantined, and hopefully both will come from the same breeder. My apartment is small, but I make do with what I have. My newest addition is quarantined as best I can from my first snake. I am asking for reference's sake primarily. Simply because I am new to the hobby and I am trying to absorb as much information as I possibly can. The last thing I want to do is make my snakes, any of them, sick. Thanks.
Rick
Just to add a note, I'm hoping beyond hope to get a couple adults from Royal Constrictor Designs. Garrick produces some beautiful snakes . I am however sending out 'feelers' in several directions, just in case someone else has two snakes that catch my eye.

There is no set breeding season in captivity. Keepers have their snakes lay clutches of eggs all year round.
First you are making the assumption that the snakes will be quarantined. Honestly, only the OP knows if they will be. He did not state that he was or was not going to quarantine his new additions. Nor do I feel that the OP needs to justify to us that he is or is not going to quarantine his new additions. Just because it is recommended that everyone quarantine their new additions, does not mean that everyone will. And even though it is highly recommended, it is by no means required by everyone. It is their collection, their choice.
If you have 2 new snakes and they are both in the same quarantine room, what is the harm of putting them together? This is assuming that they both appear to be in good health when you receive them. Again, this is a judgement call from each individual owner. Some people will take the chance/risk, some will not.
Name calling is an incredibly childish way of conveying your opinion about the actions or statements of someone else. If you would like people to take your comments seriously, whether they agree with them or not, you may want to consider choosing your words a little respect.
It is amazing how difficult it is to earn respect, but it is so easy to lose.
Please remember, this is what works for me. You may choose to use or disregard the information that I provide, that decision is completely up to you. I will we never intentionally give bad or false information. Not everyone will always agree with me, just as I will not always agree with everyone else.

Are you serious? That is the dumbest question iv heard all year.
Let me break it down so your simple mind can understand
Snake 1 comes from XX and has parasites
Snake 2 comes from YY and is perfectly healthy
Both are in quarantine. You dont think theres a problem putting them together?
Hell even if they both come from the same breeder, you still shouldnt put them together lol

Since you can breed them all year round and a clutch of fertile eggs all year round, just wait. At least do a minimum qt of 30 days and if everything looks good I'd say sure. But If anything should pop up though you will be really happy about that small wait. Patience.

Re: Too late in the season to start breeding?
Since you are obviously new to BP's and still learning basic husbandry...I would recomment just getting the younger snakes and learning more about them before you just rush into breeding them. By the time they are mature, you should know all you need to know in order to successfully breed them.
