I'm in love.
Max's parents had an iguana from Petco, who we think was very sick. He was 9 months old and still small enough to fit in the palm of your hand...
Well, he passed away two days ago.
Christine, his mom, looked for a reptile rescue in Spokane and found one, and the lady running it happened to have...
A female iguana for adoption!
Her name is Gizmo That's familiar to the iguana fans on here.
They think she was possibly left in with a male iguana and abused by him, she's missing several toes, but she is the sweetest thing ever.
She came with her 55 gallon tank, lid, hide, etc. for free. All the lady wanted was a donation, and Max's parents gave her a nice one. In the future I plan to do so also.
I've never seen an iguana in person, let alone touched one, and when we got to the house, Christine tried to pick her up--well, she doesn't like that, unless she has somewhere she can put her feet so she feels safe, I think.
So when she was back on top of her cage (she has a ramp so she can walk up and sit on top of her screen lid), I reached out and touched her.
They're rougher than the snakes I'm used to, but she closed her eyes as I rubbed her side and along her chin and above her eye, and seemed to fall asleep.
She has beautiful brown eyes, with a green ring around her pupils. She is mesmerizing. I could have stroked her and looked at her for hours. As it was I stood by her tank touching her for about 30 minutes.
She has some stuck shed, so I was wondering--what are the procedures to help an iguana get that off? I know snake procedures but not iguana ones. Advice appreciated.
So, I'm in love
with Gizmo! She's beautiful, and so very sweet and trusting.
Yay!
