I recently made my Ball some new hides out of Tupperware containers spray painted black and sealed with a matte finish. I weighed them down by hot gluing some smooth stones on the top, because he was also shoving them around everywhere.

Why weigh it down at all? My snakes move their hides where they want them. I use blacked out contact paper tubs with a single hide. Seems to work just fine.

Re: Houdini's new hat
I don't weight mine down either. Sometimes mine will be completely in their hides and sometimes almost half of their body will be hanging out. I let them shuffle their hides around wherever they are comfortable.

I don't think mine moves his in any particular order when he could move them. He would shove them randomly over to the cold side and try to stay on the warm side but was scared because there was no cover so he started roaming his cage and wouldn't settle down. Now that I've weighed them down they stay put and he is comfortable on the warm side of the cage again.
But maybe mine's just a little "slow".

Very cute!
You could hot glue a rock to the top.

Probably moving it to his preferred optimum temperature.
Or maybe just moving it to where he is most comfortable.
