Funky,Funny Eater
I have a 2010 Pastel het Clown I purchased from BHB last year. She eats great every week never missing a meal unless in shed. However every once in a while she will constrict and eat a rat pup without biting it. I've witnessed it twice and tonight she tried to do it again but the rat was able to jump out of her grasp. She will lift her head up way high and past the rat then come with her head from the back side and make a U and pin it down in the corner and try to squeeze it. I've seen her be successful twice and attempt it several other times. Anybody else have any experience like this.

Re: Funky,Funny Eater
It hasn't happened to me personally as I don't feed live, but I remember reading a story similar to this a while back on here, where someone's burm would just eat the mouse alive lol! It's more than likely that the size you're giving her is getting too small. Try offering something a little bigger next time and see if she still does it, maybe?

Re: Funky,Funny Eater
The first time she did it she was just a baby, last year when I first got her. She also eats alot in her house where I can't see so she's probally done it more than twice. I breed my own rats and always have plenty, I gradually increase size. I tried to go the next size bigger last week and she refused, put the next size down and she ate it right up. She's always been a funky eater from day 1,but she always eats so I can't complain.

i had a hogg island who would wrap up a rat then roll his body up on it and keep hunting. not quite the same though.
off topic, what is the ball in your avatar?

How big many grams is the snake and the prey? That sort of stuff usually means the prey is too small.

It is weird!!! I actually got a picture of my het pied doing it. My pinstripe likes to smash the rat on the side or top of the tub. They are funny creatures!

Exactly how she looks when she does it, It's actually really funny.
The snake in my avatar is The Flatline,Ralph Davis's mystery snake.

I had a balll do that once as well, except the rat wasn't moving much so I think that maybe the snake thought it was dead already. The snake went nuts when he realized the rat wasn't dead.
