New to this forum.Just got a snake and need help.

Hi everyone i just picked up a male pastel at the new england reptile expo yesterday and paid $150 for him hes around 3-4 feet havn't measured him yet the lady told me he is ready to breed but my question is when i brought him home he looked very normal to me so i just want to know if i got ripped off or if he really is a pastel i tried looking online to find the differences and some times i think, no he is a pastel than other times i'm like great i got ripped off lol.I've looked at his eyes and there not all black the color of his eyes actually match his color on his head cause he has two yellow/white/orange (one of those) lines on both sides of his head they go just over both eyes and on his eyes where the yellow lines are his eyes are like yellow too and his tummy is all white. Please someone help me..I will have pictures up of him very soon so you can actully see.The thing is when i take a picture with my phone camera he looks normal and when he see him in person but when i take it with my actually camera he looks very yellow/orange.

    Hi,

Try taking the shots in better light if you can - and don't forget to get a picture of the belly pattern.

And also the name of the place you bought him might help - if it comes from a trustworthy seller then chances are it is what they said it is.

It's not putting them on blast, you're unsure of how to differentiate between an adult pastel and normal. If it was sold as a pastel, it's likely you got what you paid for. Pastels with a lot of orange as a baby tend to "brown out" as adults and can appear to be normals. Of course, a picture would help If it's warm where you live, take a picture outside, sunlight does wonders!

Its normal to have difficulty in identifying certain ball python morphs if you've just started on this hobby. I remember a few years back, I often consider my normal ball python to be a pastel since he has a very light blushings on his head. But with research using various books and internet sites, plus joining this and other reptile forums, I started learning and soon I just found myself easily identifying even some subtle morphs. Just like what Kymberli said, its not putting them in a blast. Its just a way for some people here to easily identify if the snake you purchased was indeed a pastel. Reputable breeder = sure shot in getting what you paid for. Its just that simple. Cant wait to see your snake's picture. And goodluck w/ the hobby!

Reading about the eyes makes me think you have a pastel. Post those pics and we can help more. And they best said it above about being a honest business makes it easier to know you get what you paid for.
