Considering a 6 year old Blood male...advice please...

I am considering purchasing a blood or fire cornsnake. Found a 6 year old male (beautiful Bloodred het Pied-Sided). I am just looking for a beautiful and active display snake (I will not breed).

The male is older, and I would prefer an adult, but what type of longevity can I expect? Is a snake of this breeding and age likely to be "fragile"? The asking price is $250 which is not cheap all things considered. Is this a wise idea for a pet?

(PS let us not point out any geographical concerns, my other home is in the Hamptons and of course that is where the snake would reside. : )
