Ever seen this before? White mark on female's head.
Hello all, I've been keeping an eye on a small white patch on my female mojave's head and it's been slowly growing.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Any clue what it is?
She's kept in a rack at 90F in a 32qt tub w/two hides and a large water bowl. She's 1100 grams and eats a med. rat every week or two. NEVER refuses a meal.
Thanks in advance!
-Jessica

Re: Ever seen this before? White mark on female's head.
Thanks for the reply! I'm hoping it's just a rub mark. What concerns me is the fact it seems to be getting bigger. Also, it seems to be a little more sunken in that the rest of the scales.

That can happen when they keep rubbing. Whats your setup like?

I have 3 or 4 snakes with the same mark on the head. Mine are all kept in tubs...Doesn't really seem like a scratch to me, but I haven't quite figured it out.

Re: Ever seen this before? White mark on female's head.
Its not so much that its a scratch, what Im talking about is when they rub a lot, they can rub off the top few layers on their scales resulting in a white patch. I used to have a retic that would do this.

Rub mark from starting her sheds by rubbing her head against in the exact same place against the exact same thing. If you can figure out what it is she rubbing against, you might want to remove it whenever you noticed she's in shed, because that's a pretty deep mark as these things go. At this point it may be permanent.
Does she have any problems shedding?
PS. pretty mojave!

Sorry I didn't keep up with this thread real well.
She's in a 32qt tub with two hides and a large water dish.
Little update, she just shed and the mark's cleared up a bit. It's smaller and the scales look to be a light brown instead of white.
Thanks for the help!

It could have been a rat bite as well! I have had that happen once but it went away after a couple sheds. She may also be having a hard time getting her shed started and could be rubbing too hard. I put a half log in the tub when mine are in shed and they use it with perfect sheds. They need something to get it started and a smooth tub and water bowl does not give them that! Good luck!

Having to rub really hard to get shed off would signify low humidity. Mine barely have to rub and they shed starts right off. Does she get it off
In one piece or a few or patches? It looks more like a bite but it defianately could be a rub patch too.
