    Bookshelf Caging

I was thinking of converting a 3-4 shelf bookshelf into a display type caging area for my ball python, spiny mice, and whatever else I may get. Seemed more "Space efficient" than a bunch of tanks.

I was thinking of putting the Sticky Vinyl Tile on the flooring part where water, pee etc might sit. But wasnt sure how i would go about lighting/heating for the snake. I would only need it on one level not all the levels. And wasnt sure how to go about creating a door.

I was thinking of screwing a 1-2" sheet along the bottom where the floor would be to hold in shavings but not sure how i should create a hinge for the door and what not.

Has anyone else done this before? Did it work out ok or was it more of a pain than it was worth. And would it be wide enough for a snake? Would I be able to paint the inside with anything to help protect it against the humidity and heat i would need to support my bp?

Resin will protect beautifully against humidity.

Heat tape or a radiant heat panel across the back of your chosen level might help with heat. Alternately, making a sort of false floor with glass or plexiglass could let you use a UTH.

I'm looking at making my own enclosure myself so I'm all full of ideas. ^.~

Use a dimmer with any UTH for sure, otherwise they'll get too hot. I don't know how high up you'd need to put it or if those little feet would work...it all depends on the heat resistance of the material its on.
