    regurgitation 48 hours after feeding?

This thread is actually for my jungle carpet. the morelia section doesn't seem to draw the attention. I had my JCP regurgitate 48 hours after the last feeding. Why? The temps/basking spots are perfect for a JCP. I never had the JCP or any of my BP's regurge at all, let alone 48 hours later. Any ideas of why?

Re: regurgitation 48 hours after feeding?

I don't have any JCP experience, but some of the common causes for regurgitation are:

    1) Prey Too Large- If the prey is too large it can overload the snakes system or deplete the stomach acids before the process is complete.

    2) Prey Too Small- Sometimes, if the prey is too small, the snake won't relax to digest and the continued activity may cause a regurge.

    3) Temps Too Cool- If the temps are too cool it can cause improper digestion and cause a regurgre.

    4) Excessive Handling or Activity- Excessive activity, handling, or something causing stress during the first 24-48 hours after feeding can cause a regurge. For some snakes, the bigger their prey gets, they may need a little more than 48 hours before handling.

    5) Internal Parasites or Illness- If you suspect this, it is best to obtain a fecal sample or have a Herp Vet check them out.

The best thing I can recommend is to double check your temps and prey size. Wait at least 14-21 days before feeding again. If everything checks out and your snake regurges again, you should schedule a vet appointment. If you find something that you need to change, you can try to feed one more time after waiting. But if it happens a third time, definitely go to the vet. Too many consecutive regurges can become chronic. Hope this helps...
