    Act of nature

The weather and acts of nature always amazes me, with the tornados and hurricanes, floods, earthquakes…….. all of the act of nature. Wind can put a car miles away from where it started, flood water that come up so fast that it buries everything under feet’s of water. Even a volcano erupting has a beauty of its own. Apart from the heart ache and death these thing cause it is wild what earth does to itself.

Yes, its amazing and the power nature can unleash can leave one in awe.

However, in the wake of such destruction and suffering, its kind of hard to see beyond the devastation. Just yet.

Sometimes I wounder if there is a reason behind it?
Notice how it always seems to be the highly populated areas that get hit the hardest?
Might be trying to cull out some of the earths population?
I have always said humans are the biggest cancer on this planet.

There is a really good reason why highly populated areas get hit the hardest. Its because we measure how hard an area is hit by the devastation that is left. Nature tends to handle an earthquake much better than civilization. The more people there are the more we care about it. Natural disasters that hit unpopulated areas don't make the news in the same way. Keep in mind that Japan has had many earthquakes that are as big or bigger than the Haiti earthquake that we heard so much about. We never hear about them because no one dies. The earthquake in Japan was nearly 1000 times as powerful as the one that hit Haiti. The death toll in Haiti was over 200 times as many people.

    Re: Act of nature

Yep. It's really easy to be "amazed" by the destructive power of Nature when you have the ability to observe it from so from a long distance away....and in the warm and safe comfort of your home.

I don't think people who have the power of Nature kill their kids, destroy their homes or ruin their lives are as entranced by it.

Really guys? The OP isn't making light of the deaths of humans or the destruction of property. He simply stated that it is a pretty awe-inspiring thing that our planet is capable of. And he is absolutely correct the earth is truly an awesome force when it uses the strength it holds. No one is saying we should marvel at others heartache or pain but the forces at work here are incredible and would be just as awe inspiring if they happened in a rain forest as they were in the city.

Who said he was making light of anything? Who said he was marveling at others heartache and pain? I don't think the OP said anything out of line and I don't think he needed to apologize for anything either.

I will say it again - the forces at work are really incredible when you aren't on the receiving end of those forces. Period.
