    Eye cap question

So my snake had a great shed all of the shed came out but it is too hard to unravel and I was worried eye caps my still be there. Is there a easy way to tell if the eye caps are still there or if they shed off?

    Thanks

    Lance

When you look at the snake you should see that the eye doesnt look real clear. Should look like a piece of skin still over it

first examine the shed, if the head piece is still whole where the eyes are you will see the cap if it came off. If it didnt there will be a hole. The eyes will still have a slight cloudy or dull look if the cap is still there. If it is, the easiest way to remove them is use a piece of scotch tape. The frosty stuff not the clear its a bit too sticky. Just stick it over the eye and gently press on it to stick. When you pull off the tape the cap should come off with it. You may want help to hold the snake if the snake decides to struggle.

My BP just had a bad shed, the caps were still on but came off without a problem after a warm soak in a tub. You could try that.

    Re: Eye cap question

If you really want to check the shed to see if the eye caps are there ... give the shed a few good squirts of water then place it in a plastic baggie for a couple hours letting it sit some place warm.
That will help to loosen it up making it easy to unroll.
*Lets just hope there are no added gifts there too*

Myself, I'd just wait till the next shed and bump up the humidity a bit more, the eye caps should come off then.

dont worry to much and dont try to remove anything yet because many people have done more damage to a snake trying to remove an eye cap that wasn't even there.i would just make sure the humidity is at 60 to 70% and wait for the next shed good luck

This is my advice also. Odds are you would do more harm than good trying to correct this, especially since you not sure if there is even a problem. 1 set of retained eye caps is not going to hurt your BP.

My recommendation is to just make sure you are maintaining proper humidity (at least 50%) and the next shed should me one big piece that you will be able to see the eye caps on. Then you will know you are good to go.

    Re: Eye cap question

I really think it's best to just leave them or use the bath/cloth method. Tape could really hurt the eyes of the snake

    Re: Eye cap question

you can just wet the shed skin to make it easier to unravel next time.

But if you dont even know if the eye caps are stuck just leave it alone and raise the humidity even more and they'll come off if they're there.

DONT use tape on your snakes eyes...would you want tape on your eyes? Plus if there's no eye cap there you'll do damage..
