BP Owners - Want to try a new snake? - Hognose

I have had BP's and other pythons for many years. I recently got the urge to try something different and purchased some corns (cheap and lots of morphs) and a hognose.

My initial reaction is that corns are nervous and flighty. Even adults never settle down and hang out like a BP.

The western hognose I have is generally like my BP's. What a cool snake. Smaller, fewer and more expensive morphs but an all around nice snake.

Thoughts?

I agree, hognose snakes are very cool. I would like to see more breeders get

involved in hognose projects. The yellow phase is my favorite so far.

That funny, cause just not to long ago, I was thinking that Hognoses would be a good snake to get into. They are an awesome snake, with some very cool morphs. The Super Anaconda morph is one of my favorites, but pricey!

Hognose are just awesome. One of the short list that I like nearly as much as the bp's...

My first snake was a corn snake, and I generally say that they are among the gentlest snakes ever! Sure hatchlings can be little noodles at times, but they are among the most popular snakes for good reason. You must have a bad batch if your adults are flighty, lol.

Hoggies are wonderful, just weighed my female in at approaching 250 grams. I wish I had a male to pair her with this year, I may keep an eye out for one and see if she goes this summer.

I'm jealous!! I've always wanted one.. but here in IL you need a permit. A couple hognose locales are native, endangered species here. And from what I understand, the permit is a hassle to get. Too bad.. they are really cool snakes!!

Agreed. Corns are a lot like balls as they have unique personalities. Some are relaxed, others are not and they can even sometime be biters. My Corn is oe of the gentlest little snakes I have ever seen

Yeah IL's hoggie regulations are pretty annoying! NARBC in Tinley is my favorite show to go to, but hoggies aren't to be found there.

I agree 100%, they are amazing snakes and make great pets. I even found a youtube video of one eating a hard boiled egg!

I got my first and only Hognose when I was 11 (22 years ago) and loved him. I've recently got back into reptiles and picked up BPs and Rosies, but now I want a Hognose again really bad. I was just holding one the other day deciding if I wanted another, and now I've been on Kingsnake Classifieds looking for one to pick up.

I have an Abbott's line Okeetee that I picked up a week ago that is a nut case biter. He was fine at the show but after a few days of relaxation he is unapproachable. I have a bunch of other corns that don't bite but I wouldn't call them freindly. They're always trying to escape.

I have fallen asleep with a BP wrapped around my arm and he never moved. That's what I call Man's Best Friend. FYI, I was in front of the TV and my wife was watching the snake so I was not in any danger.
