I just bought my BP last saturday, the reptile shop owner said it was 7 months old, and i measured it at 19 inches. But out of curiosity tonight i weighed it, and its 100 grams. Isnt this way under weight? The store owner told me she feeds it every 2 weeks so maybe thats why? I will be doing its first feeding since owning this saturday, and will be doing a 7 day feeding schedule.

So should i be worried if it doesnt pick up some weight after a few weeks?

Granted I am no expert, that seems very under weight. My brothers is also about that age (maybe younger) and weighs in at 190 grams

It really depends on how the snake looks. It should be a little thicker in the center half of the body. Some people who don't want to breed or that just have them as pets don't feed as often as other people do. The thing is, if the snake looks thin and you can see it's spine easily then it's too underfed.

Personally, at 7 months the size can vary greatly but that sounds way too light for me.

I would feed it small meals every 5 days until it gains a couple hundred grams and it will grow fast on a better schedule.

im not an expert at all, im kinda new to the hobbie, but i have seen lots and lots of BP at 7 months and none is 100 grs, at least 250, i mean at least, i think about 2 answers, 1 its very underfed or 2 its not 7 months. good luck

I agree, he could probably use some more food. A baby/young bp should be fed every week. Adults can be pushed back to every two weeks. I have three around that age and they are all right at 400 grams. Even the three that are a bit younger are all close to 300 grams.

just fed him 2 small mice from petco, couldnt get to any of the exotic places around here for rat pups... will try to get some for next feeding in 5 days though. thanks for the help guys.
