    New Fur-Baby!

I know I haven't posted in a while. Vet School has been keeping me super busy. Still, I thought I'd share some pics of my new dog. She is six years old, obtained from a local breed rescue about a week after being 'rehomed' on craigslist from a backyard breeder. Her name is Mizu (water in Japanese) and she is learning all about being a house dog. She is a bit of an unusual breed, so I will let everyone guess what she is instead of telling you:

Huh, I would have guessed Collie x Australian Shepard, but she's a purebred? Australian Kelpie?

Whatever she is, she's super cute!

Great guesses so far! She is very gentle and very sweet, just not entirely sure how to interact with people. I've only seen her tail wag a hand full of times but I'm hoping she will start coming out of her shell soon. She is definitely most comfortable outside, but inside she is a major lazy bum (Not a couch potato yet since she shows no interest in getting on the furniture).

So, the process of coming out of her shell has begun full force!! I've seen more tail wagging today than the past three days put together! Usually she is most relaxed when she is outside, but today she actually sat with me downstairs for a bit instead of on her usual perch at the top of the stairs. Already doing great on walks, and was a champ in her crate while I was at school for rather long hours. The transformation is amazing to watch. Unfortunately her mouth smells like the rear end of an unkempt cow. Luckily we have already scheduled a dental appointment for Thursday (Feb. is pet dental health month for anyone who didn't know).

You guys did great with the guesses! She is indeed a Blue Merle Smooth Coated Collie. Reportedly she came into rescue from a back yard breeder. Luckily she is in good body condition and other than not being socialized seems to have an exceptional temperament. I have her AKC papers as well and oddly enough she has several champions in her pedigree, including some dogs with herding titles. She is VERY laid back, which is exactly what I've been searching for.

Tomorrow I have to feed the snakes, so she is going to get to take her first trip in the car to go to the pet store and help me pick up rats.

    Go NCSU Wolfpack!
