what happens when a small ball python breeds?

what would happen if a 900+ gram BP is gravid? Is this very bad? if she produces a small clutch will the clutches always be small? Does this pose health risk?

Depends on way to many factors..is the snake healthy? is she old enough, bla bla bla

But I bred a 2006 900 gram female last year and she did just fine for me

age is a important factor also,my worst feeder two years ago laid 6 large fertile eggs at around 1000 grams but she was 4 years old.

breeding a small young female is borderline foolish IMO.hope this helps.

X2 and I have heard that they will continuously lay smaller clutches and you run the risk of her dropping too much wieght and not being able to breed the following year. not to mention the risk to her health. It can be done obviously, but is a good idea? Probably not.

As long as they are old enough and have a healthy length to weight ratio...I see no problems with it. I have never seen solid proof that smaller females are at more risk of becoming egg bound. Smaller clutches...Sure.

Very interesting! I have a 2007 PH Lavender Albino female that is around 900 grams now. She has been smashing food this year, so I have been contemplating breeding her.

There are a few things that could happen,

She could lay a small viable clutch.
    She could lay slugs.
    She could become egg bound.

She also could take longer than a larger female to recover and not breed for you next year. (which is most likely if she lays). If this happens you are trading a small clutch this year for a larger clutch next year.

Or she may not lay any eggs at all. I have a 2005 female that is about 1300g (she only eats every other time to every 3rd time she is offered). I have bred for the past 2 years and she has not laid eggs even though she has locked up numerous times.

You have to weigh the risk to your female (there is always risk even with big healthy girls) vs the benefit of the outcome.

    Good Luck!

I think it was 99 or so. I had a small female( around 900 grams) drop a clutch of three for me, but I will say it did take her a long time to build back up. She looked down right scrawny for a few months. Once she gained weight back she did good. Now as for them not dropping larger clutches I have not seen that with this female. She averages 5 to 7 per cutch in my buddies collection and weighs well over 2500 grams.
