Some wholesale them off to other breeders, some wholesale them to the pet trade. But personally snakes don't have an expiration date so to me there is no such thing as overstock..

Your 100% right, some snakes values increase as they age, mainly females.

I would say the only snake that doesn't increase with age would be Normal Males.
People work out deals with pet stores, where the pet stores buy the snakes really cheap then sell them way over priced to un-educated first time snake owners .

Hell yes they do! My local pet store that I used to go to is selling hatchling normals for $75...not that bad but considering that I've seen hatchling normals at shows for $25-$35, I'd say they're over priced indeed....and I was duped by them cause I bought my first BP(a normal hatchling) from them at $65+all the supplies which ended up coming out ot be like $175! LOL..

Yea but you are comparing a retail store front's prices to that of buying direct from the manufacturer and it's apple's and oranges. I sell normal males to pet stores in my local area, they sell them for 75-80.00 and will sell 8-10 a month. I don't think they are over priced, the store prices them to cover the cost of product, overhead, store footprint and marked up to make a profit. They run a business not A soup kitchen, when people stop buying them for that price then they will either stop carrying them or lower their price. Is just business operation and you really can't compare the pricing of a retail store to that of a direct buy from a breeder..

I attempt to sell all of my babies (That I dont hold back) but would be more than happy to keep them if they dont sell! I agree that there is no such thing as overstocked, I like to call it an "Impressive Collection" - I seem to be having one of those right now LOL.

Every breeder has a number that they will let their collection get to. I don't plan on breeding ball pythons really, but if I can get my african fat tail geckos going, I do plan on breeding them. I wouldn't want more than 10 females in my breeding collection. Thats a lot of eggs and a lot of babies.
