    hide box size dilemma

the 2 hide boxes i have now are the small ones from reptilebasics.com.
    they both measure 5.5" long x 4" deep x 2" tall.
    the mediums measure 10" long x 7" deep x 2" tall.
    my dilemma -
the smalls are getting to be a tad bit too small but those mediums are definitely too big.
    i need something that's approximately
    7" long x 6" deep x 2-3" tall...
i know everyone here uses different things so i was just wondering if ya'll can throw out ideas of things that'll be somewhat around or close to the measurements i'm looking for.
i kinda wish reptile basics hide boxes didnt jump in size like that. i actually traced the outline of one of the small ones i have on a piece of paper, cut it out then measured and cut out the 10 x 7 on another piece of paper and compared the 2 cutouts side by side. theres just too much of a jump from 5.5 - 10" and 4 - 7 ". i can fit 2 smalls inside the medium!
i'm guessing my girl is gonna need at least 6-8 more months of growing before she'll need that medium hide box.
i know bp's like tight fits and all that but the problem my girl is having now is that the hide boxes are starting to fall/roll off of her when she tries to get in them. sometimes they just end up sitting ontop of her but when they roll off they lose the ability to provide her the "hiding" spots that she needs. despite the humor behind this little miss chub not being able to fit into her little houses, i'm growing more concerned that she's not getting the security she needs with the hide boxes rolling off and ending up flipped over and she's in that spot going : .

Listen i've been using both the smalls and mediums, i understand the issue your having.

Your Ball python will feel just as secure in the medium, they are very dark and secluded hides, so she will snug up in the corner.

If you really want another type of hide, i feel the blue cereal bowls from any dollar store work great! They are 3 for $1 and have a small lip around them. These are the only 3 hides i use for smaller snakes and they all work great!

Now bigger snakes need large and medium RBI hides, but i always play it by ear and some of my snakes don't even need hides.

mommanessy247, the bigger hide will be fine, just add either a small ball for paper in the hide or let the substrate be a bit deeper in the hide. I often add a larger hide but do not remove the smaller and for a few weeks have 4 hides usually the snakes start to use the larger size and I have yet to have any issues with feeding.

Just go to the Dollar Store like mentioned above and just get a few plastic bowls...cut a hole and be done...once they outgrow that go get a litter box and cut a hole. Plain litter boxes like this can be found at any petstore for cheap...http://www.corbisimages.com/images/5...6/CB001415.jpg There's no reason to order this stuff online and pay to have it shipped...

    Re: hide box size dilemma

well after a good search i found freedombreeder.com and they have the ACC small hide, it's round with an opening in the side like a doorway, they also have some that have the opening on the topbut those are the larger ones. the small hide i saw there measures 6.5" in diameter which is right around the measurements i figured my girl needed. so...hmmm maybe i could use a couple of those...
oh...not ignoring the responses here, thanks guys.
aes_sidhe - i have not gotten the chance to measure my girl yet and did not plan on doing that until i got my hands on a scale so i could do a weight/length at the same time.
steveboos & kitedemon- thx for the ideas and input.
we have some large pieces of sheetrock/drywall that i could use to MAKE hide boxes with the measurements i need, but they would come apart too easily with nails so...
[sigh] thought i had an awesome idea there but i dont want something falling apart when my girl goes to curl up in it, lol.

Here's a bunch of stuff I use as hides...you'll need a Dremel or hole saw though...

Dremel's are great...I use them for everything...they are one of the few things I really don't think I could live without...

A hole saw is just a drill bit with a round saw blade around it...google hole saw and you'll see what I'm talking about...
