I'm not all that familiar with Tegus, or lizards in general. But did you give him time to get settled into his new home?

You should give him a week to settle in before you handle him, baby red tegus tend to be more on the shy side.Try offering him food now probably some ground turkey and a pinkie and then leave him alone and let him adjust for a few days. Then try handling just take it slow each day handle more and more if he lets you until he calms down.It will take time to calm down but with much devotion it can be done.

Here is a helpful link on basically all thing Tegu's can eat just in case you were wondering!

Bobby at Varnyard and I had a 2 hours convo when I was thinking about getting a tegu. A great idea he had was put him in a box...watch TV or a movie and just keep your hand in the box. Let him come to you. Also you can give him little treats by hand that will help as well. He also has a specific diet that is awesome. I followed this when I was taking care of my friends tegu. You make a months worth and put it into baggies and freeze it. So so much easier....I even do this for my BTS now.

    These are Bobby's sites...

these site will help you immensly with your tegu and I can tell you.....if you have any questions give him a call. He is one of the most stand up guys I have ever ever met. He will spend as much time as needed to get you on track. I cannot say enough positive things about this guy!!!
