    Pinstripe?

It is my understanding that pinstripe is a dominant trait right? I just read a for sale add for 1.1 pinstripe which went on to explain how everyone has to have this co dominant gene. So the breeder is wrong? How in the world can he not know? Am I wrong?

There is nothing written in stone yet but Brian Barcyzk believes he may have produced a super pinstripe. It looks exactly like a regular pinstripe but in every breeding this male has been involved in all of the babies have been visible pinstripes.

So as of right now it is still up in the air.

It is indeed dominant and not co-dominant.

It is dominant because the super aka homozygous looks exactly like a normal pinstripe aka heterozygous. remember your punnet squares?

    Pin x Pin breeding

PP = homozygous or super pin
Pp = heterozygous or normal pin
pp = no trait aka normal

the "PP" and "Pp" look exactly the same, therefore it is dominant, so to answer your question yes the breeder is wrong or just mistyped it.

Thank you for posting that. I hate those dang punnet squares and I wasn't sure how to explain it without using one.

Every dominate gene has a super form by genetics standard, they just don't have a visual super form. If you breed two pins together, there will be some pins out of the mix that are 'super pins' or homozygous to be correct. Those ones will only throw pins, just like a super pastel (a visual homozygous). Pins are not codominate by any means though, not sure how a breeder wouldn't know that. That's one of my biggest pet peeves, if you don't even know what you are breeding and the basics of their genetics why the heck are you breeding...

I wish all my snakes were homos! You know, I almost wrote 'homo pin' then went back and wrote the whole word out so no one would be confused,

Lol! Homo butter? Anyways I've said it before, I really think I'm going to take a genetics class. Maybe even go for a degree, biology or sumpen. I should learn how to spell and good grammar stuff
