    Snakes in the news

    http://www.fox2now.com/wjw-pythons-r...,5705582.story

I was reading the news on lunch and came across this.

I love how it states the neighbors are scared to death to sleep at night then says how tame and well fed the snakes are.

It states you must have a special permit to have them there, not sure how hard it would be to obtain one. Feel somewhat bad for the guy losing his snakes. Sounds like they were well cared for.

    Re: Snakes in the news

This seems like such a shame. The owners should have had necessary permits, but come on. I really love the comments from the neighbors stating that they could not sleep at night. What a joke. The comment at the bottom makes me sick. I goes to show how uniformed this world is about reptiles.

This is why every time I get asked, "Do they bite?" I say,

" Yes, but so can anything with teeth, including YOU!"

Never fails to make them feel silly.

Then I ask, " I suppose you want to know how dangerous they are and how deadly their bites are right?"

I usually get a mumbled yes.

Then I tell them the truth, " Kitten bites hurt WAY worse than one of these guys, and are also much more dangerous because of the tendency to get infected. I almost lost my foot because of a cat bite. The worst I've gotten from one of these guys is a pin-prick and a few drops of blood."

Gives them something to think about.

Its so irritating to read this, and its funny to think someone who has some kind of education, (who knows with fox news though) wrote this article.

And then the neighbors... Come on. Your telling me your husband and yourself took shifts for sleeping.

The kicker i think was stating that the snakes are "carnivorous". Hmm. When is the last time you say you snake eating a head of lettuce? Yes there are some insectivorous species, but not many compared to the 99.9% carnivorous species.

    Re: Snakes in the news

ugh. I hate articles like these. not just because of the content itself but like someone already mentioned, the way that these things are written. I feel like my 10 year old sister could have written a more objective article with twice the common sense. Who the heck are they letting become "reporters" these days

I think it's funny that these 'Flannick' people said that they cannot even sleep knowing that these animals are next door. What type of people would stay awake on shift ensuring that these "carnivorous" predators do not enter their home in fear that they may attack them with their 'sharp teeth'.

And then to sum it up they state the following:

"We're thrilled. We're hoping that now some of these neighbors with for sale signs will maybe reconsider and stay in the neighborhood," Flannick said.

It is more likely that having these type of people as neighbors would cause you to want to move out of the area.

Bad neighbors, bad article and bad outcome.
