    Poor man's herpstat

Anybody familiar with the Hydrofarm MTPRTC digital thermostat? I found it on Amazon. It seems to have the basic functions needed for regulating heat. It's rated up to 500 watts, max temps of 110F. At roughly $28, could it be the poor man's Herpstat?

Ehh i've heard people having success and people really getting a terrible unit, so i choose not to risk it. Then again my animals mean A LOT to me and i don't want injure my animals because i didn't want to spend a couple extra dollars on a nice Thermostat.

There's a good chance it could work just fine, but thermostats are not the place to pinch pennies...at least in my opinion...

I'd take a rheostat over that hydrofarm thermostat any day.

yeah. I had the unfortunate experience of getting a zilla tstat as a gift, needless to say a herpstat was bought, hooked up, and keeping my snakes safe and warm within a week of realizing how bad it was.

Ill throw in my 2 cents here

    I HAVE BOTH

yes, i have a Herpstat, and a Hydrofarm on/off thermostat

I gotta say, they both work AMAZING.

the hydro farm is keeping my leopard gecko warm and happy at 95 - 97F, and my herpstat keeps my boa nice and warm at 89 - 91F.

They both work amazingly. if you cant afford a Herpstat, get the hydrofarm 100% I have had nothing but good experiences with it so far

Thumbs up Re: Poor man's herpstat

I use the Hydrofarm MTPRTC on my single rack and it works perfectly. Not sure how it'll work with multiple UTH. I haven't had any problems yet.

I've had 4 racks on my hydrofarm since November, and it's working great. I use a helix for my bator.

I too use the Hydrofarm. Not had an issue yet! If I set it for say 95, then the thermostat I have attached to the glass above it reads 92. So 3 degrees variance doesn't seem all that bad.

I also own one and a ranco, very happy with both. Ranco for bp racks and hydro for gecko rack and my animals mean A LOT to me.
