New proud parent :@)
Hi all,
This is my first post here after about a week and a half of reading. I got a six month old captive bred normal ball python. I have wanted one since I was a kid and after visiting the zoo decided it would be a great time. :@)
I got a 20gal Terarium with an under heat pad and a dual light fixtures kne for day/basking and one red infrared for the night. Black Aspen bedding two coconut hides and rock water bowl and some moss for humidity as well as a beachwood tree thing for her to climb.
I have had her now for 48 hours the first day she ( I just assume she is a she for. Reasons of not calling her an it) she was really active checking her her new home. At first I had a wooden tree hide that she was not fond of and preferred being between it and the glass but after readingon her I adhered and she now loves her new hides. Temps are 90-92 hot aide and 85-86 cool side. Humidity is about 30-40%. I put black paper arous all sides except the front to make her feel more secure. I do have a couple questions.
1. I know the humidity needs to be higher what's the best way to do that/ misting techs. I have moss in there already I was thinking about putting. Warm damp towl above half the screened top.
2. Since the new hide she has settled in the cool side coconut hide and has not left it's been so far about 12 hours that I can tell. Is this normal I think it is but I'm being a worry wart lol.
3. I'm going to try and feed her on Sunday 7days after I got her. When should I start trying to handle her to let her get a little more comfy around me? When I last held her ( while putting new hides in) she seemed relatively relaxed and just stayed curled around my hand.
I'm thrilled and feel like I might have a new addiction lol. She is very healthy alert and beautiful!
Thanks :@)

1. As far as humidity, you could cover the top with a towel but that breeds bacteria, your lamps are zapping your humidity. Also try misting.
2. A hiding BP is a hapy BP, they are more active at night.
3. If she eats for you on Sun., wait 24-48 to hold her

Thanks :@)
Also does everything above sound correct? And as far as handling I have heard leave her alone for a week, others say a few days then handle daily for shirt periods. I know there are differences between pythons.

I usually wait until after my eat once or twice for me before I start to handle them. I want to make sure that they are settled in well. Then remember leave them alone for 2 days after you feed them. BTW congrats on the pickup.

Re: New proud parent :@)
Also another question :@) so sense last night when I got her new hides she we t into the one on the cool side and has not yet cone out that I have seen. It's now night and she is still in there; now it's only been dark for like an hour and I obviously can't see if she has come out when I'm sleeping is this norm when I first get her? I thought about her shedding I have not seen any signs of ghat yet. I think I'm just being over protective.
Thanks :@)

My bp's spend most of their time in their hides. A happy bp is a hidden bp.

Yeah for normal people that sleep at night you will rarely see your snake out. I sleep during the day and in the snake room mostly between 2:00 am and 5:00 am and mine is still in the hide when I am up most of the time.
