    Genetics question

I have a Female het orange ghost that I have breeding to my orange ghost. At first he didn't seem interested so, so I breed my Lesser to her. Same thing, showing no interest. Then I put my Pastel with her and got a visual lock in less than 15 min. Since I started breeding her, I have locks with a Pastel, Lesser, and the Orange ghost . I have since gone back to breeding my Orange ghost to the het, and have had multiple locks. My question is, if I get Orange ghost and say lessers in the same clutch, what precent het would the lessers be, 100 or only 50. Or is it not that common to get more than one morph in a clutch, breeding more than male.
    Sorry this was so long.

Your chances for a Pastel or Lesser is 50% morph 50% normal! If it was the Lesser or Pastel that successfully breeds with her than the clutch would also be 50% het ghost but you would not know which ones were! If the ghost was succesfull than you have 50% chance at ghost and the rest would be 100% het ghost! Here is a website to help you out: http://www.ballpython.ca/what_get/recessive.html

The few times I tried to get a multiply sired clutch with co-dom or dom males, I've been unsuccessful and have had the most recent male end up siring the whole clutch. However, I've seen plenty of posts of people getting multiply sired clutches. We know it does happen, but we cannot comment as to how commonly or easily it occurs.

In your case, since we do know that more than one male has been with the female, we cannot rule out the possibility, even when only one morph shows up, that the normals were sired by another male. So, you can only be certain that the normal appearing babies are 50% poss. het orange ghost.

Anything that is visually lesser or pastel would be call 50% possible het Ghost.

If it was Ghost then no other possibilities would exist.

If it was normal looking the best odds you could list it as is 50% possible het Ghost.

Now if you have Ghosts in the clutch and no lessers or pastels the odds are in your favor that the ghost is probably the father of all the offspring and they are all 100% het ghost, but you can not gaurantee that. So if you sell them as a principled person you would have to list them as 50% possible het ghost, unless you kept them, raised them up, and proved they were het ghost through breeding.

All non-hypo snakes will be 25% het hypos, since you bred her with multiple snakes, you can not say for sure than anything but a hypo had the hypo father. so you can only go off what the mom is, which she is 50% het, so the babies would be 25% het. unless she proves out and makes a hypo, then all babies would be 50% het.

Any and all lessers would be 50% het. I think that was the question you actually asked.

The male ghost would NOT affect the genes in any lessers at all... so the mom would make the lessers 50%. Make sense?

    Re: Genetics question

Thanks for all of the replys. I am pretty good with the co dom and the dom genetics, recessives throw me off a little. I know 100 precent het to any co dom or normal gives you a 50 percent shot, I was just a little cofused with the posibility of a multi clutch, with the recessive thrown in the mix.

Not really. I could use a Lesser het ghost, or even a pastel het ghost. I've got time to raise a couple of them up and try to prove them out.
