Another Petco Atrocity, who to call? What to do?
Hey there,
I was down at my local Petco just yesterday picking up some sphagnum moss and some aspen for my lil' bp when I stopped by the reptile area to see what they had. After checking out the RTB's I went over to see the BP's... This is where the horror began. I noticed that the BP's were set up in a small (20-25) gallon tank with two tiny hides, a TINY water bowl, and very low temps (75-78 on both sides.) But don't worry, it gets worse, MUCH worse. There were SEVEN BP's in this enclosure, all about 3-4 months old (juveniles, probs 20" long). Half had retained shed all over them and one didn't seem to be moving! This is disgusting!
I've heard of a group to call and wasn't sure if I should simply alert animal control or something? But I feel that I need to act, help me BP.net!
Cheers,
Fatal

I asked one of the guys on duty for the reptile section to come over and I asked him if they always kept it like that and he pretty much said that was all they could do for them....

Did you offer calm reasonable advice on how to solve some of the issues?
Multiple snakes in a single enclosure is common in stores. They don't plan on having them very long, and usually feed in seperate enclosures. They won't give many hides to ball pythons, because it's nearly impossible to sell an empty tank because the snakes are all out of sight. So the fact they had ANY hides is impressive. The temps ARE low, but if they have them in a tank, that could be solved by covering the top or upping the heat, depending on what they are using for heat. How did you measure the temps? IF it was the stick-on thermometers, they are really no good. Temps could be lower OR higher. Stuck shed does happen and they should fix that, but if they don't know how, they need advice.
IF you went over the things they could change, offering advice on how to do it and why it was important, then they ignored you anyway, you can complain to the manager of the store, then if he/she doesn't care, you go to the corporate headquarters and complain to them.
