BP doesn't like Moss?

My ball python is about to go into shed. I've had a hard time keeping the humidity up, so I decided to get some of that Sphagnum moss. I got the moss wet, and then squeezed the water out. But now after putting the moss in the hide the snake won't go near that hide. They just seem to hate it. Am I doing something incorrect?

Have you tried to take it out and see if they will use their hide again? If they do you might need to make a pile of the moss on the hot side just so the ambient humidity is in the 70% range. I didnt make a humid hide for my girl and she did just fine with the entire tank at 70%.

If you take the moss out and the snake still wont use the hide they may just be uncomfortable because of the impending shed.

If you are using an aq. then take a wet hand towel and put it over the screen part of the cage. Also take a warm wet wash cloth and put it over the warm hide. This will help hold up your humidity and give them something to rub on. Works like a charm.

Anytime you make a change to their enclosure, it can take them several days to get used to it. Just switching out one hide for a new one can make it seem like they are rejecting the new hide...but they're just taking their time checking it out. Their world moves at a much, much slower pace than ours. For all we know, he may believe some other creature has moved into his little cave and it will take him a few days to convince himself that he's still alone in there.

instead of putting the moss IN the hide, try putting it in a tupperware or metal bowl and leaving it on the hot side. i do that for my corn snake in the 40 gal tank. helps keep the humidity up, then just spray for the shed. i presume it'll work for the BP as well...
