    Reporting Neglect for snakes?

I just wanted to know do people even consider Reptile neglect as animal abuse?
And can you press charges of animal neglect for a snake that has gotten horrible scale rot due to not being taken care of and the owner refusing to take it to the vet?

Okay but will they take it seriously because it is a snake?
I'm just educating myself because if worst comes to worst I may have to report someone.
And where would I find the #?

    Re: Reporting Neglect for snakes?

animal control should investigate any and all reports of neglect no matter what the species involved. by law they have to i think.
anyhow, for your info what they'll always do is investigate the report, talk to the owner and give them a deadline to get the animal checked out by a vet. they will follow through with the owner to make sure they're complying with their demands. if the owner does as they're told most times they'll get a few more follow up visits before the case is closed out. if the demands are not met then i think thats when they start going
"ok you can either sign this animal over to us or we can get a warrant and seize it."
if the animals condition is considered life threatening when they come out to make the initial investigation, i think thats when they automatically go to removing the animal from the owner's possession.
but usually they always try the "educate the owner on that animals care" approach.

    I saw the other thread.
This guy has had too many chances already. You told him you'd report him, and he's still neglecting the animal. "I can't afford it" is not an excuse--if you can't afford it, then you give the animal up immediately.

Call animal control in. The faster this snake gets treatment, the better chance it has of surviving. If it does not already have septicemia, it can survive this. The longer it waits, the greater the chance the snake will become septic.
