    Post Tub Setup Questions

I will be getting a BP soon and I've decided I am not going to keep it in a 20 gal tank. Instead, I am going to keep my BP in a sterilite tub. Using a tub will save me a lot of money and in my opinion, they sorta look better than the average tank. Would a 64 quart tub be large enough for a BP? Here's the tub I have my eye on:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-...ndingMethod=rr
If not, what size do you recommend?

Also, to heat the tub, will I need 2 UTHs? What size UTH will I need? I plan on buying the zoo-med brand UTH along with a herpstat or zoo-med repti-temp thermostat.

whoa 44 bucks? dude check Target or Kmart for cheaper ones also what year is it how big is it so on and so forth i have 2 35qt Sterilite tubs that i picked up for 10 bucks a piece at the local Dollar General but that's for some 2010 hatchlings the biggest they had was 106qt tubs for 18 bucks as well but those are far too big for hatchlings so i got the 2 smaller ones
i looked around and you have some DG stores near you here's a list since i don't know your address only your City/State also they have a website but the search engine thing isn't working either that your you can search their inventory anyway i would check there before spending so much on those tubs hope this helps

    Re: Tub Setup Questions

My bad xD. The reason why they were $44 because that was a set of 6. I saw them for around $8.00 at a walmart not too far from where I live. Since I'm starting out with a juvenile BP, I'm gonna try a 32 quart .

That 64 quart tub will be too big. Pretty much the size of the snake will determine the tub size. For a young snake, under about 8-9 months old, a 15-20quart tub will work. Once they hit about 9-12 months old you can move them into a 32 quart tub, and that will last for at least a year or more. Since you will be using a stand alone tub, I suggest setting it up just like a tank. 2 hides, water bowl, maybe a small piece of wood or something to rub on.
For the UTH, I use a 10" X 11" on my 32qt tub. It should cover at least 1/3 but not more than 1/2 of the floor space. I would suggest thinking about what size of snake you want to get, whether it be a juvenile or a yearling. Go to Wal-Mart and look at the tubs. when you find the one that you are going to need, measure the bottom of it, and that will make it easier to decide what size UTH you should get. If you get a tub with the locking handles, you won't necessarily need straps to hold it down, but you will need some binder clips to keep the tub and lid pinched together. If you get a tub with just a snap-on lid, then you will definitely need some straps, as well as, binder clips to keep the lid down.

Here is how I have the inside of my tubs set up. This is the 32 quart tub...

You can probably make it work. You would just need to add some fake vines and stuff to clutter it up a bit...

Thank you so much . I love how your tub is set up btw One more thing - will I need 2 UTHs or will one be ok? I'm going to get the 10 x 11 as well.

The only reason you would need a second UTH is if you keep your house colder than about 75-77 and the ambient temp inside the tub doesn't hold. I would suggest starting off with one UTH and see how it goes. I keep my house temps cooler, but I use a space heater in the snake room to keep the ambient temps in there up. I also use an oscillating fan to circulate the air around the tubs which helps keep the humidity stable. Also, when you go to Wal-Mart to get the tub, you should consider getting a soldering iron. They cost about $6 and will make punching the holes so much easier and quicker, unless you already have a drill and want to use that...

Yeah, I'm definitely going to need a second UTH because our house can go as low as 55 degrees. But I will start out with 1 UTH just to see how the temps are and if they are too low, I'm gonna buy a second UTH. I might have to just go along with the 20 gallon set up with one UTH and a CHE but. Thanks for your help ^-^.

If your house is cold for SURE don't go with the tank. The tub will be easier.

    I use these:

I use heat-tape set to 94° under the tubs. I use paper as substrate. I poke exactly 24 holes (12 on each end) in the tub with a soldering iron.

    I use these bowls:

For smaller bps you can go with smaller tubs.

    I use these hides: http://www.reptilebasics.com/hide-boxes/

"smalls" for hatchlings, mediums for a little bigger snakes... by the time they outgrow the "medium" ones I skip hides entirely.
