Tubs W/ recessed bottoms

I picked up 2 6qt tubs today and a 2 foot piece of flex watt and i was wondering if you guys just set the tub on top or do you tape it up into the recessed bottom? I'm just worried about the edges that actually touch the tape will being too hot for my new babies

I just set mine on top of the heat tape. I just check the temp of the hot spot with a temp gun. It seems to work great for me.

do you use anything to shim up the cool side to allow under tub circulation? Right now I have the temp probe right in the middle of the hot side, is that good? this is my first setup with flex watt my others have UTH with adhesive backings

As long as you are using a thermostat, it won't get too hot.

I use a thermostat so I do not use any shims. You really need to use one on heat tape. It isn't safe to use without it.

I'm using a dimmer for the next couple days, yeah i know that stuff gets super hot. It's been very stable all day and my room is very consistent with temp, so i think it will be good.

I was just unsure because this is the first setup for me that doesn't have the heating element in actual contact with the bottom of the entire span of the tub (hot side) and my other tubs have wheels so that allows space for air circulation.
