Humidity trouble

Try as I might I can't get the humidity in my tank to get over 30-40%. I kind of feel that it's because of the wire-mesh top and the fact that I'm using a space heater in my room. Any way to help fix this?

The first and easiest thing to try is cover the screen with aluminum foil. If you are using a heat lamp then leave a section open for it. If not, then just leave about a 1-2 inch strip of screen exposed for ventilation. There are a few different ways to do it.

The way I did it when I used tanks was to cut cardboard panels and wrap them in foil. Then I could add or remove them as needed depending on what I needed. This is what it looked like when the lamp wasn't being used...

I found out over the weekend your substrate plays a huge part on this. What are you using for bedding in your setup?

Using Repti-Bark currently, but I put a towel over most of the mesh top and it holds the humidity better. I still have to mist daily though.

Try getting the biggest water bowl you can fit in there, keep it as full as you can, and try using cypress mulch or coconut bedding. They hold the humidity crazy well, and you'll have to mist half as much, if that.

I switched to cyprus mulch and havent had the issue since.. another good one is coco husk.. it comes in a brick that you have to soak but it only costs a fraction of cyprus mulch..

Check Your neighborhood if somebody doing glass or Plexiglas work and order piece of Plexiglas that fits exactly inside of your tank top and cover 2/3 of it if You use dome heat, or even 80-90% if You use only heat mate...
I had same problem before when i have BP in tank and piece of Plexi covering 2/3 of 20g long tank cost me 6$ and look way better than aluminum foil.

Occasional Misting will help too. Other thing what help with wy case as well was switching substrate from aspen to repti-bark. It keeps humidity a way better and looks cool as well.
