Generally females will be ready to breed at around their third winter. I'd go with around 1800g ideally, but 1500 isn't bad. For males, they're usually ready by their second winter, bout 800g-ish.

yeah personally I wouldn't want to start a females breeding life until she was around 1800-1900 but as far as males go, I've heard males successfully copulating at as small as 500g. id say anything over 650 and you're good to give him a go. just monitor weight loss during breeding.

You may get some surprise to breed your female at age 4 and over 1800g, say with a 6 egg clutch.

As you can see, it's pretty much all personal choice. Generally I hear people say 1,500 grams, and 1,300 being the minimum for females (also their third winter). For males 500 grams to 600 grams they are ready to breed (also their second winter). Last year I successfully bred my male pastel at ~450 grams.

I personally use a combo. Females their third winter at 1,500 grams. Males their second winter 600+ grams preferably. You take a chance of them not being sexually mature any smaller than that. Also them fasting or becoming ill from the stress. When I bred that pastel last year I put him in for 3 days and out for 2 weeks.

Question Re: What age and weight to start breeding...

I have a normal female at 2300 g's and a male pinstripe at 523 g's. I was thinking on waiting until he gets to about 650 grams! I have heard they can breed at 500g's but is the bigger the better a good idea?

    0.1 Pastel (LemonDrop)
    1.0 Mojave (Mojo)
    1.1 Normals (Otis, Queen)
    1.0 Pinstripe (Pins)

a semi-large breeder told me you can start your females at 1200g but no less? and males as low as 500g but no less. (all measurements taken when there empty [no food inside of them])

Re: What age and weight to start breeding...

A lot of large breeders will push their young females very early, typically power feed them to short obesity, they will result in small clutches with a lot of slugs. Also, not cooling females will produce slugs, but people seem to still do it anyway. Start breeding condros and breeders will understand the importance of age and cooling when it comes to healthy breeding. That's my personal opinion, but you see some of the biggest breeders in the world not, so maybe I'm wrong.

But also if it meant a new morph and lots of money, wouldn't you push females to breed early too? Although, I recommend 3rd winter for the female, 2nd for the male, weight of the female at 1500g.
