    Escaped Ball Python

I have only ever had a snake escape once due to putting on the wrong type of lid for a tank. Today makes escapee number two. I am a wreck. I have torn apart the room, upended every stand or bookcase that has a raised bottom (there is a space in the back where they can get under it). I have followed the walls looking for every dark space. Now, there is a very cluttered (like things are bursting out of it) closet in the room. I'm about to go tear that apart, but so far I have not found him.

He has probably been missing since yesterday afternoon. I had given him a mouse and I left the lid ajar. There was a good 2 inches of space for him to get out. I have no idea why I would have done this. I am always anal about closing tubs and cages.

I am VERY worried he got into the heat vent near his tank. I'm pretty sure the grate has spaces big enough for him to fit through. (About 1/3 to 1/2 an inch) I am so worried about him. The first and only snake other than Tak that got loose was never found. With the heat vent right there I am soooooo terrified I'll never find him again. I am a terrible keeper. How could I have let this happen. I'm always so careful!

I am open to any and all advice on how to find him. I'm going to go tear apart the closet now.

I have read on here that placing a thawed mouse in a hide or over turned shoe box has worked for some people on here, I would also say be methodical ( something that can be hard to do if you are freaking out like I know I would be) and slowly check everything .. if there is a way to get into the heat vent I would check there, check your box spring in your room etc.

I have read a lot of post where people have found their snakes upstairs when they are kept downstairs. I hope you find the baby!

Biggest sigh of relief ever! I had torn nearly half of the closets contents out and moved a box and sure enough, he had wedged himself between the two boxes. *collapses to ground* omg......I am so relieved. He is now secure in his tank. I double checked and rechecked then went back a few seconds later just to check again.

I'm going to spend the next week or so snake proofing that room and organizing that closet so that if this ever happens again (which it won't!) it will be easier to find the snake.
