    About ASFs and Fancy Rats

Well I have two sets both as pets, even though I plan on breeding the ASFs.. Oddly enough though they are in the same cage and still haven't killed each other or anything.. They're both very young the fancy rats are 6 weeks old and the ASFs are 10 weeks. Do you think it can last?
(Only problem is constant squeaking from the female when the fancy rats ignore her)

That will almost certainly not last. I haven't heard of anyone successfully keeping ASFs with norway rats.

Why are they in the same cage to begin with?

Anything will live together when they are young...
It's just a matter of time.

agreed. Never tried it but I highly doubt it will last. I have seen asf kept sucessfully with mice though.

Don't fancy rats get twice bigger than the ASF's? I've never tried mixing species in one tub - I got hamsters too. But, I reckon the ASF is going to be dead when a fight breaks out. Well... actually, this might not be true. The ASF's are meaner than rats. So, who's gonna win - the meaner one or the bigger one?

Just speculation, of course. This is an experiment I wouldn't be brave enough to try.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

asf get bigger than mice. asf vs rat would be a tough call. My bet would be on the rat.

Re: About ASFs and Fancy Rats

I was cleaning the cages and low and behold I only had one instead of two because it broke. I bought a new one today, but its strange because the ASFs and Fancies are cuddling together and my blue ASF female started grooming Jinkies my fancy rat..
