    Poppy problem...

Elizabeth decided to defecate today... by the time that I got home from work... she had already had it sorta rubbed on her stomach... I immediately took her to my bathroom, filled the sink up with lukewarm water, and let her soak in it then hand dried her and let her slither through the distowel to dry off... she is no longer "stained" but still retains a fecal scent at some parts of her body... I know I have read to never put soap on a snake... is there some sort of mixture of something that I can use to clean her? or.... is it okay to leave her smelling like that? ><

The smell will wear off. I wouldn't worry much about it

Yeah, just leave her and the smell will wear away on its own when everything is clean.

You can use hand soap on them no problems, and or you can also use chlorohexidine as well to wash them off.

Some have gone to using Simple Green after egg laying. When its diluted properly it wont harm the snakes.

Baby shampoo works great as well.

I've used it numerous times to remove MOST of the smell when that happens.

    Re: Poppy problem...

I've had some stinky snakes before from them sitting in their poo for a few hours...not sure why they do it, but they do...and as long as its not sticking to them, I just soak em in a tub with a washcloth for like 30 minutes and then leave em be in a nice clean tub with fresh substrate, I use aspen, and the smell usually clears up after a day or so.

My stinky het pied female always does this. I clean the tub, rinse her off with a towel and put her back in. She rarely smells for much longer after that.
