    Heat troubles

Ok, so as I mentioned before we have a 36" x 24" x 14" cage made of HDPE for Sylvia, my daughters new BP. It has a 11" x 23" Ultratherm UTH controlled by a Hydrofarm thermostat. The probe is between the UTH and the bottom of the cage. The thermostat is set to 95 right now. I've also put a mini zoomed UTH under one hide controlled by a dimmer under one hide to keep it atleast 75. I've had to crank the heat up in my house to 75 to keep the cage temperatures atleast 88/90 hot side and 75 (on uth) cool side. I am using an accurite thermometer/hygrometer and an extech temp gun that I bought used at a pawn shop.

I think that a radiant heat panel would be my best option. What do you all think? I'd like to use the RHP to get the ambient temps up to 80 and then use the Ultratherm to get the hot side up to 90ish. I just sent an email to Pro-products to see what they suggest. Does anyone use Pro heat panels? How are they? Would another brand be better? I've heard good things so far. What size do you think I'll need and how much do they usually cost? Will I need another thermostat to control it? If so, I'm going to try to get a Herpstat II so I can control multiple things with one. I'm thinking pro because I'd like to get my son a male spider BP in a few years and we could use it to control the heat for both cages. And if I have to spend the money I may as well do it now.

Does this sound like a good plan or does anyone suggest a different way to boost heat? I don't have the option of putting it in a room and boosting the temp in that room with a space heater.

I usually keep my house around 70, having it at 75 is driving me crazy and I'm terrified to see my next gas and electric bill

Thank you all for your input,

    Jennifer

    Re: Heat troubles

Sorry about the rambling there. I wanted to edit, but I guess it's to late.

The cool side is actually around 75 without the mini UTH and 80 over it and the warm side is only 86. Also, there is a fine layer of aspen bedding on the cage floor so the temps are basically from the cage bottom.

    Re: Heat troubles

Can someone please tell me if an RHP is my best option? Do they heat the whole cage or just what's right under them? I'd like to be able to raise the ambient temps to 80. Would an RHP do that? Is there anything else that would work better?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer
