Our carpet has an intense feeding response. She's our garbage disposal in our snake collection. She'll eat pretty much anything. I hear that's pretty much normal for carpets.

If you go to open her tank, she will strike and strike, but once she realizes there's no food involved, she chills out quite a bit. I think she is the most beautiful of all of our snakes.

She also likes to hang out in a tree in her tank, so she's a decent show snake. I am not sure if this is normal behavior though.

I'd say go for it. At least you know it will probably be a good eater!

8+ foot. They can get pretty darn big, even for carpets. It just takes them some years to get there.

Short answer, yes there is special care you should be aware of.

Long answer, I'm not qualified to explain the specialized care of DIAMOND carpet pythons. Diamond carpet pythons require a different sort of keeping than other carpet pythons, especially with regards to temperatures and seasonal changes. I know they require winter cooling, otherwise they are prone to an early death and illnesses. Exactly what to do, when in the year to do it, I'm not knowledgeable on.

I keep a coastal and a few intergrade carpet pythons. These guys are much more typical warm-weather pythons and pretty tolerant of a wider range of temperatures (especially on the hot side of things). I still seasonally cycle them, but nothing as drastic as what I've heard people do with diamond carpet pythons.
