Wow what a difference!

I have had my BP Hera for about a month now and she is very relaxed when handled and is generally lazy. Well last night we got ourselves a little corn snake and man totally different attitude!

We aren't sure of the gender but we named him Zeus for now and he is SO fast! Like little greased lightning if I don't watch him he might get away. Well anyways I had a question about how much they burrow, right now we are using a single heat lamp to heat his 10 gallon (I think) tank and we have 2 hides for him. But he really doesn't use them, he seems to prefer to burrow deep under the cypress. This is normal for him right?

Yeah, some corn snakes seem to like to burrow more than others, especially when they're young and if you give them enough bedding. I'm sure he'll use his hides eventually once he calms down and feels comfortable. I personally use aspen bedding for mine

Ahhhh, perfectly normal corn behavior.
Did you get a little hatchling? If so, YES, they are wriggly little worms! I nicknamed mine a shoestring. They will stay that way for quite a while as from what I have heard they grow LONG before they start widening. I'd recommend handling once a day or every other day for 5-10 minutes after the acclimation process when she's not so stressed (if she hasn't done that already), and put a long + wide container under where you are sitting as a safety net. This is what I do with my corn (who is 6 months old and way bigger than most corns her size), so if she slips out of my hands she won't get hurt and won't get lost in my room.
Burrowing is normal from what I understand. As long as you're not an idiot like I was and your heat mat is plugged into a thermostat (mine wasn't for a while ), burrowing shouldn't harm her/him. Mine also liked to go under her water bowl when we had it above the substrate and pee and then lay in it, and there was very little ventilation, so that is one reason she has minor scale rot right now. We moved it directly on top of the glass and no more problems.
Corn snakes are really fun. I love mine, but they can be pretty high energy especially when you are used to BP's who don't really...move.

I'll take a pic soon (once the wife gets home and someone can hold the lil booger). At the moment we don't have a UTH for him and all the heat is done by the house (which is kept at around 75) and a 75 watt heat lamp. I hope he never gets away from us, not only would we never find him the cats are avid mousers and would nom him real quick.

I'm not sure how old he is but he is still on pinkies so I guess only a few months.

They do love burrowing. It's fun to see a nose pop up out of the substrate. Has it tail rattled at you yet?

Yeah he has a little bit, but not much, I think it's so cute when they do that.

Corn babys are crazy fast.I have one his name is apollo. He claim thought and not a hater like some others but they will grow out of it. I dont know if you is true for BP but I know for corns you should not miss with him 2 much for the frist 2 weeks then feed him not miss with for other week. just so he does not get to stress out. Corns are definitely not like BPs, as they're much more outgoing and SUPER fast in comparison. My BPs will cross a room in ~10 minutes, if they don't get distracted along the way, or stop to take a nap... the corns will clear it in 30 seconds, and then go back for another round.

Mine are on & off with the hides, sometimes using them and sometimes not. They also seem to like those half-logs, which are usually not recommend for BPs - maybe because it offers security, but still allows them to be nosy like a typical corn. As for the bedding, I'm allergic to wood shavings, so mine get either newspaper or Carefresh (for those who like to burrow). Hope that helps, and good luck with your new baby!
