    exo-terra forest bark?

has anyone used this? it says its good for humidity and all that, but i wanted to get opinions before i got some...i've heard that the repti-bark leaves splinters so i opted not to go for that.
    so is it ?
    or...
    ?
i WAS using a cypress blend until i found out it had pine in it and since pine has been known to cause problems with reptiles i immediately discontinued using it and for now am temporarily using paper. i'm sure my bp wont care what i put in there but i kinda do.
    1) i want something that will hold humidity well &
    2) i want something that looks nice.

I have a bag in the freezer but havent opened it yet. I mixed eco-earth with my aspen to get my humidity up. been at 50-60% for 4 days now. one little brick of eco covers a lot of ground when you blow it up with hot water

    Re: exo-terra forest bark?

i was also planning on investing in some new england sphagnum moss to see if that bumps up the humidity too. i was gonna wet a bunch of it, stuff some in one of the water dishes and then spread the rest throughout the terrarium. right now my accu-rite needs batteries and velcro before i can set it up but once i get that done i'm almost sure i'll be seeing really low humidity in there, if not no humidity at all. hopefully with the bark and moss it'll go up. i had the cypress mulch cuz it's supposed to be awesome for humidity and it looked kinda cool but that freaking pine man, it's in EVERYTHING now! i tried so hard to find something that was just cypress but i couldnt find anything so i went with my last option, pet store substrate. i know some people keep it simple and just use newspaper or paper towels but it's so hard to maintain humidity with that stuff.
anyways, how much is 24 qt? it sounds like alot but i've got no clue.

I get a huge 20 liter bag of aspen for like $8 and a brick of eco is $4.
1/4 bag of aspen and brick of eco mixed put about 2 inches of bedding in TWO 20 longs, 50 gal reptile, AND 55 gal.

So if you are doing it in only one tank and break of 1/4 of eco, you should get 4 to 6 months before you have to buy more.
