sphagnum moss (Petco Vs. Lowes, Menards, Home Depot prices)

    So because of this thread:

    • Quantity 1. Bag of spagnum moss. $4.

During sheds some moistened spagnum moss in the vivarium provides a good slow release of humidity between mistings. Available cheaper at gardening centers than at pet stores. Always ensure you buy the natural untreated kind. We found a 170 cubic inch bag of Mosser Lee sphagnum moss at Lowe's.

I am VERY interested in getting sphagnum moss at one of those stores rather than a TINY LITTLE BOX of it at Petco for $6.

We have already checked at both Lowes and Menards and they both have only bags of it with "miracle grow" in it. (Have not checked at Home Depot yet though)

Is it because it is now Winter in Minnesota and moss is now out of season? I don't want to buy sphagnum moss at Petco anymore. In fact I don't want to purchase ANYTHING from them anymore! They are a horrible franchise in my opinion and they are just there to rip people off and give out misinformation.

Where can I buy untreated sphagnum moss at a reasonable price without giving Petco money???

    Hello,

I order my spaghum moss from www.tropicalplantproducts.com - they sell it in 1 kilo packages - this stuff will go a long way. I believe it costs $18 for a kilo. I just got a shipment in - very good quality stuff.

Their website is rather odd though - you place your order, then they email you the total cost including your shipping charges and then you mail them a check - they usually send the stuff out before they even get your check. Ive had great experiences with this company and would recommend their product.

    Hope this helps.
