Judy! I did step one! Quinoa - my rice substitute.
Okay, I sat down and actually thought out my diet. Yes, I've been on one before, and my husband is actually a health guru so he gives me suggestions and such.
Well before that - let me talk about my husband a bit. One thing that's really conflicting is that my husband is a very healthy person but when I ask him about myself - he always says, I look great or he would say, yes, your pants don't fit you anymore, so let's just buy bigger ones because you're stressed out right now (I'm going to school). He's being a "supportive husband" - but it's not going to do good for my health. But then, I can understand why he would do that because I know that I would be badly hurt if he tells me I'm fat! But then, my husband is this "what you see is what you get person" - if I ask him something straight up, he will answer me straight up - but I think because he is my husband he overlooks the not-so-great health that I'm in and see something else... do you know what I'm saying?
So, yeah, my husband may not be the best source for support for this journey.
Okay, so back to my step 1. I know I need to change my diet. But, the one thing that ruined all my last diets is that - being Filipino - I just couldn't live without rice. So, a Filipino friend of mine told me about how she was able to overcome that - by using Quinoa as a rice substitute! She can pretend it is rice (it has a nutty flavor so it doesn't really taste anywhere close to rice). She said it worked for her and that she was able to get her protein and got rid of carbs all at the same time.
It is expensive though - but I think it is worth a try.
So, yeah. My step 2 is walking... I'm having a hard time because of the freezing weather - it is 18 degrees in Florida the past 2 days and even the malls are cold. But, I know part of that is just an excuse - some resistance to doing my step 2. So, I just need to put mind over matter and go DO IT!
Wish me luck!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
