UTH + ReptiCarpet = ?
Would it be safe to use repticarpet with a UTH? I have a thermostat hooked up to the UTH but I was wondering if this would be a safe setup. I dont know how good the heat transfer will be, but I figure once the carpet gets heated up it should be fine. I just want to make sure im not gonna pt the flames to my dear lucy.
On a side note: I have the probe under the carpet taped over the middle of the UTH. Is this the best place to put it? I have the carpet around it weighted down with a hide but the probe isnt under the hide. Sorry Im a newb lol.

Re: UTH + ReptiCarpet = ?
hm well, i've been told that any tape at all in the cage is a big no-no. repticarpet really sucks for humidity though...you cant spray it like you can with cypress mulch.

I have the aluminum tape going 3/4 the way around the probe with the rest pressed down firmly against the glass, I made sure that there is no adhesive available to touch just in case. I didn't know how else I could secure it in place.

I have the cord in the back corner of the tank hot glued to the corner. Its pretty tight, so it should be good. I was thinking about hot gluing the probe but i dunno if it would melt or not. Im thinking it should be good.

I just got the UTH, thermostat and carpet set up a few hours ago. The UTH hasn't completely heated up yet, so i still have a heat lamp going. I have a screen top with about 75% covered in aluminum tape. So far the humidity has dropped from 60 to 50 since i have put it all in so I am waiting to see how the humidity is going to hold up. I have some moss to add if it keeps falling, but with the carpet I dont want to get the moss too moist so I dont know yet. Im gonna see how it goes for a couple of days and if I can't keep the humidity where it needs to be I might have to go back to aspen shavings if it gets to be too big of a problem. I hate to keep switching it up on her though. Sorry if I came off rude, I really appreciate your replies and any advice you could offer.

Using hot glue to secure the probe would be fine. If you can't keep humidity up, you could always try cypress mulch. The repticarpet is just going to get all nasty and stinky when your snake defecates and urinates which will make it a breeding ground for bacteria. I would lose the carpet.
