New Here getting first bp tomorow
hello everyone,
im getting my a bp tomorrow, its a baby from bryan gundy here in san jose. i have the cage setup its a ten gallon low with the top of the screen 95 percent covered, 2 exact hides, zoo-med reptitherm uth 10-20, this is were my question is i have a thermostat what should the exact basking be 91-92 right i have newspaper than aspen soo if the snake decides to burrow down a bit it will not touch the actual glass i was going to use repticarpet in between the aspen and the uth for that purpose, will the uth burnout or anything like that from the thermostat i just want everything to be right for my bp??
thanks in advance for the responses.
P.S. this is an awesome board

so im assuming 90-95 would be a good hot spot and to keep ambient temp my room usually is about 70-75 flucuating(spelling) mostly around 73, is that fine?? also with the thermostat probe (tell me if im right) put it directly on to the heatpad above the glass and set it to about 92-93 and i should get a pretty good temp above my aspen newspaper?? i just want this to be right i dont want anything bad to happen to the snake.

Sometimes you have to tweak the stat a lil to get the right temps, for example my herpstats read 98. something and the actual floor temp of the tubs will be 91-93 or 94. I would tape the prob directly onto the heat pad. You can get an accurite thermometer or a temp gun to measure substrate temps

Just aspen or newspaper is fine. The hot spot if kept at the proper (90-92) temps will not burn your snake so extra measures are not needed. As far as ambient temp in the room goes as long as the the cool side doesn't drop below 78 your fine.
Grab an accurite if you don't already have one. The unit itself will measure the cool/ambient temps along with humidity and the prob will measure your hot spot. (it's not great at exact temps but will get the job done and give u a ball park around 2-3 degrees +/-)
And hot side temps should measure the point on the glass where the heat pad is heating it, not above the substrate.
Thermostat prob should be between the heatpad and the bottom of the glass.

thanks for the answers i cant put the thermostat probe between the heat pad and probe i already stuck it on the bottom of the tape i can buy the foil tape and tape it to the bottom of the heat pad?? and i have a digital thermometer with probe that i can stick to the glass on top under the substrate to get the reading of the actual hot spot and what size bulb should i use to keep a ten gallon low tank ambient temps at 80? i found these since my tank is so small
http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...2&lmdn=Reptile
and use a dimmer on that to control the heat output and leave it on all the time.

Good luck with your new bp and welcome to the site. post some pics also. don't worry about burns as long as your temps are where they are supposed to be. If you haven't done it already i would turn on your heaters and try to stabalize the temp before you put your new bp in it.
Edit: scatch that seems like you already are. I didn't read your whole post. 93-94 is ok i might tweak it down a hair.
