    Is it a Sumatran?

I just recently acquired what I was told was a Sumatran Blood Python, but the more I look at her the less I think she looks like my other Sumatran. If I post a pic of her will you guys be able to tell me if she looks Sumatran?

    I would appreciate it!~

    Re: Is it a Sumatran?

I will try to post the pics tonight, she is a beautiful snake though, she has orange and pink over the top of her head rather than the classic brown color, and it runs down her body and her pattern is weirdly mixed and broken up running down her spine, pretty neat actually, I will take some photos tonight and post em for everyone. Also she is super relaxed, she has not even hissed at me, and has zero head shyness or tail shyness, she will almost immediately start to explore while you hold her and is very active and will flick her tongue at
everything in sight. I am very happy with this snake! She even took a rat 3 days after I picked her up, she did not even hesitate to take it. It was funny because every person at the reptile show was scared of her, they all kept talking about how mean blood pythons are, and I just kept saying how the one I already had is a big baby, but they insisted that bloods have terrible temperaments, even the people I bought it from warned me that bloods are mean snakes, it makes me sad because Bloods are such great snakes in my opinion and so many people must be scared off of them because of these rumors.

They are more than rumors. If you work with bloods extensively, I feel pretty confident you will find some that are 'mean'.

My girl will try to rip your face off, no questions asked.. but she's not even a year old yet and I'm working with her to get used to some handling. So far she's tagged me probably about a dozen times.

That said.. they make great pets and MANY MANY will be fine to handle.

I understand your point, but you could say the same about most species of snakes, I have even met some ball pythons that would try to bite anything that came close. It js just sad to see people automatically disregard a snake because they assume all of them are bad tempered, when some of them can make amazing pets. I just have to say that I am lucky that both of mine are so mild mannered.

Yup! I count my lucky stars, cuz plenty of snakes (especially young ones are snappy, but the ONLY snappy one I've had to deal with is the blood python. Even one of my very young carpet pythons was 'supposed' to be a little devil, but he seriously chilled out after coming home to my place. I just chuck the blood python up to the universe evening the odds on getting placid snakes.
