I am think about getting one of these guys as a rescue / possible permanent member of the collection. I have been reading care sheets and think I have it down for the most part. Seems the diet will be the hardest part of keeping one... what else should I know about this species before taking it on? What negatives should I consider that the care sheets aren't telling me?

Ya know I just got one and I love him....cute as a button. The hardest part is for me is really keeping that basking spot 120 degrees. As far as the diet ....it really is not that hard. If you have beardies...then no problem....you will be able to do it. As far as the beans and lentil thing...just make sure they are a little older when you start that. Get a cheap coffee bean grinder and you can grind up some stuff. Put in a tupperware bowl and just sprinkle on his food.

The other thing you have to be careful about is that if you do put some water in....make sure it is super super shallow. They have been known to crawl in the water and put there head down and drown. This was advice directly from the breeder out here and I have to say...I saw my Ernie doing just that....but the water was not deep enough for him to drown.

Also when they are all warmed up and happy...those lil guys can move...super fast. They have NO sense of how high they are....they will just walk off the couch and bounce or just take their head and ram it into where ever they want to go. lol
