Humidity Help!

I have a 20 high tank. I need to know how to keep the humidity up high cause right now im only getting up to 50-52%. Im using cypress mulch for substraight and its about 2 - 2 1/2 inches thick. I moist the substraight at least 5 times a day... My basking side is 90 F. and my cold side is 80 - 82 F. I also keep 1/3 of the top screen covered because I was told that would help with the humidity and tem. to stay where I want , but it is not working. What should I do?

What type of monitor are you keeping?

90 is too cool for most varanids. 1/3 of the top may not be cutting it and your substrate depth may be too shallow.

Soak paper towels in warm water and put them on the hot side, or lamp side and that should pick it up a good bit.

I'm guessing a baby mangrove.

You need to do some serious research. There is a lot of information on the web. Just don't believe anything that tells you an aquarium is okay for ANY sized varanid.

Your enclosure is not large enough.
Your mulch is not deep enough.
Your hot side is not hot enough.
Your water container is not roomy enough. (I haven't seen pics, but if it's in a 20 gal. aquarium, then I am correct).
