    Another Petco Story

I don't EVER go into the local Petco. But a few days ago, I went in while waiting for my wife so we could go shopping at Home Depot. Well, of course, I walk directly to the reptile area. What do I see? A small ball python with what looks to be a couple of sheds stuck onto its body. The eyes had retained eye caps, but the right eye was really bad. I try to find someone in the area, but found no one. I go the cashier and tell here about the snake. They send someone over to that section and I leave.

I went back last night to see what they had done. ALL of the ball pythons were gone. There were 3-4 in the aquarium the first night. Now they're all gone. I know they didn't sell them all within a 24 hour period.

So, I wonder what happened. I asked the person working that area and they said they didn't know. They were gone when he arrived.

So, my question, what happened to the snakes?

Maybe they just took them to the back for some TLC and will put them back on display when they are ready. No sense assuming the very worst in a situation like this...all that does is stress you out.

I do find it sad that this big retail stores get their ball pythons imported from African farms as newly hatched babies...these sorts of babies need truly knowledgeable and caring people to get them started after their horrible start to life being shipped overseas with thousands of others without any water or even a first meal. And the least likely place they'll find someone able to give them a proper start is a giant pet store employee or the random impulsive customer who thinks a snake would be a cool pet.

But I wouldn't assume the very worst without good reason to. I've got enough real stress in my life without letting my imagination add even more.

They put them in the back. If a customer complains about something and the store employees actually care, they will remove them off the floor and put them in the back, or send them to the VET.

Don't get all bent out of shape just yet, they are probably in their sick room in the back. Or if they were on sale, they probably could have sold that many quickly.

I thought about this too, but the one with the stuck shed was a little larger than the others. The others looked fine. I can't imagine why they would have removed the others when they appeared to be in good health.

Well if the manager cared, they would remove all until the situation was figured out. Could be changing the reptile setups or something else, not sure. Overall most managers will care enough to at least take the one in question off the floor, except for Petland of course, they are just the worst.

    Re: Another Petco Story

I'm glad we don't have any Petcos or Petlands here. Although, we do have a lot of Petsmarts.

The Petsmarts around here normally have great managers, and even though they don't know a whole lot about reptiles. They at least try their best, So I give them some credit.

I still buy from Breeders though.

Another reason why they could have all been moved is for feeding. Most pet stores feed in the back so that people don't get upset.
