Bearded dragons are awesome, but I wouldn't call them "beginner" by any stretch. They require a lot of care, feeding and cleaning. More so than a leopard gecko.

How large are you talking, OP? There are giant lines of leopard geckos. And I don't mean to steer you from beardies, they are awesome, but if you don't have the time to make a salad every morning, give them feeders a couple times a day, bathe them, figure out how to give them water (each one is different it seems lol) and have the funds to buy the proper UVA & UVB lights, appropriately sized enclosures and hundreds of feeders a week, then you might want to think about something else.

Leachi's are pretty awesome, I don't know how much their care differs though from other geckos, but they are the larges gecko species.

    Re: Beginer lizards?

Beardies are def the way to go if looking for something a bit bigger. They can be pricey to set up, but some people make them sound harder to care for than they are. They are bigger therefore they will require more cleaning than a leo and a larger cage. Make sure to do your research and you will be fine.. Buy a healthy dragon, if possible get maybe a subadult as they are hardier than babies. Sometimes you can even find well taken care of yearlings. Dragons for the most part just naturally calm as they get older, babies can be quite skittish.

I have been keeping dragons for 8 years and what works for me is an every other day feeding schedule...this is for adult dragons only....babies require food every day. I feed salad and protein...supers or crickets...every other day. My dragons always have pellets available, the pellets are by no means their main diet, but I like to provide them. You will have to find what kind of schedule works for you. Some people like to feed protein one day and the salad the next, alternating days. And others like to feed both every day, which is fine, but you also have to be aware that dragons can get obese so you will have to limit how much they get.

Dragons would in my opinion be the best mid sized lizard to start with, I would much rather see people start with a dragon than go with say an iquana or monitor for thier first lizard.

Hope this helps and keep in mind that everyone has thier own opinion and you have to find what works best for you.

Leopard geckos are IMO by far one of the best choices for a beginner lizard. They require very little cost to setup and maintain and if received from a trustworthy source are usually quite hardy and handable.

Having said that, bearded dragons are awesome. I bred and kept beardies for about four years and loved having them. The downside to keeping beardies are they are much more expensive to house and maintain. They are not hard by any means, but they are more work.

Skinks can also be a great pet, but are more difficult to come by for CBB. I would not suggest buying an import for a beginner, so if you go the skink route, shop around and spend the extra money on a captive bred specimen.

    GL with whatever you decide!!

Kournikova says do your research she'll be keeping an eye on you! (:
